 10. IMAGE OF INTERIOR MODEL. descriptions of materials from left to right: hand drawn laminated artwork, ceiling light made from scrunching up tracing paper attached to ceiling by string, sky light Made from tracing paper, initiation of glass made from laminating empty laminate pouches, furniture and floating stairs made from spray painted cardboard, pillows, tv and coffee table made from cut foam. Using a simple space, I wanted to enhance the perception of a larger space by increasing its spacial flow. this is done through the half levels to the conversion pit, to the stair case up to the second Level. The atrium like design from the conversation pit up to the skylight opens uptake space between levels whilst allowing light from skylight to penetrate through to the ground level.

100 word statement

Structure to skin

The title of this project ‘Structure to skin’  is a metaphor exploring the interrelationship between architecture and our physical/ psychological well being. Focusing on modelling study spaces, a place where students spend the majority of their days sitting, the immersion of architectural, outdoor/indoor space and lighting elements play an important role in increasing productivity, creativity, and health. After experimenting with lighting and comparisons to initial models, i've found that this notion is best explored through increasing the connection of indoor to outdoor space within architecture, increasing open space and spatial flow through half levels, stairs and ramps, incorporating indoor environmental quality through a natural colour palette and use of natural lighting through various  sources such as skylights and windows.
